Da Vinci Code? Seriously? I couldn't get past Chapter 1!

I've read half of these.

The reason THE ALCHEMIST is on that list is because it's required reading in most high schools. I tried to read it when my girls were reading it--couldn't make it past page 20. God, it was awful. I'd rather be stuck in Hell's waiting room with nothing to read but Jonathan Livingstone Seagull than try to make it through that morass of cheap sentiment again!

Tell us what you really think, Deb.

I'm guessing that's why A Tale of Two Cities is that high. I read it in high school. But that one I liked.

I have, to my utter amazement, read 6 (and a fraction--the fraction being Don Quixote) of those. The DiVinci Code is not one of them, and neither is The Alchemist, nor is The Dream of the Red Chamber. So I've read the others. I was a bit surprised that LOTR was not on the list, actually. (Based on Deb's reaction to The Alchemist, I guess my comp would be Love Story--I laughed at both the book and the movie; fortunately, the book took less than 2 hours to read.)
