I Miss the Old Days

An Ode To The '50s Chevy Bel Air

In spite of the popularity of the 1957 Chevy, Ford outsold it that year. Yet the Chevy became the icon, based on styling and it's engine. You hardly ever see a 57 Ford these days.

I loved the Fords though.

I had two '57 Chevy 2 door hardtop Bel Airs (my first and second cars) and I loved both of them. But do I wish I still had one? No... An old car now is, to me, a hole in the garage into which one shovels money.

One of my best friends in HS had a '59 BelAir (in 1964/5). (Only a couple of my friends had cars; the other one had a VW bus his family bought in 1964 when they were in Germany for about 6 months.) The BelAir was pretty cool, but Jerry spent his life feeding it.
