I grew up on "The Waltons" and identified with John-Boy as a fledgling writer. I like that kind of homey Americana, although sometimes they ladled the syrup on a bit thickly.

I can't remember a year like 2016 has been (thus far), when so many pop culture fixtures, so many people who entertained us and did things that had true meaning in our lives, have passed away. And it's not even April yet!

Oddly enough my basketball coach in high school was named Earl Hamner. He passed away last year in his late 80s.
