During MNF, Cosell would now and then bring up to him about when Chuck Bednarik knocked him out of football for 1 1/2 years. You could tell Gifford was pissed about that..

My husband flew to New York this morning and he texted that Hoda Kotb (Kathie Lee 's co-anchor on the later hour of the Today Show) was on the plane. Then one if my daughters saw in the local paper that it was Hoda's birthday. I know she's from the New Oeans area, so we figured she'd flown in to celebrate and had to go back for the show. Now I'm wondering if she had to go back early because Kathie won't be on the show this week.

/RIP Frank. I know Bill will have a hard time believing this one, but Frank was one of my many secret husbands back in the day.

Don't know about the rest of the country but they are making a very big deal of this in New York. Hey, I'm old enough to remember Frank when he was still playing for the Giants.

I'm that old, too, Jeff.

Deb, Frank was also the not-so-secret husband of one of Johnny Carson's wives while she was still married to Carson.

Also, iirc, Dinah Shore in her pre-Burt Reynolds days. Frank was a play-ah!

And anyone who hasn't read it should get a copy of Fred Exley's A Fan's Notes and read it. Frank is a major character.

Great book. I read it about 40 years ago, so it's not as bright in my memory as it should be.

I admired Frank Gifford as a player. I wasn't a fan of Gifford's work on Monday Night Football. Jeff's right, Gifford is a key element in Exley's A FAN'S NOTES.
