I had a small chemistry set when I was about 11. Almost every experiment I looked up required chemicals that didn't come with the set. I made some stuff that you soaked twigs in to make colored flames in the fireplace, and that was it.

As a hippy, years later, I had other experiments with chemicals.

My favorite Christmas present ever (1958 or 1959). I sort of skipped the "experiments" booklet and tried to blow things up.
