No one had to tell you that Joe Garagiola was a great guy, he beamed it every time you saw him on TV.

Fred Willard based the character of the clueless commentator in "Best in Show" on Joe. Joe was unquestionably one of the nicest guys ever, but he didn't know diddly about dogs and he was a commentator for years when the Westminster Dog Show was broadcast.

/RIP, Joe.

First Yogi and now his good buddy Joe.

Truly an end of an era.

Wasn't he Charlie Brown's favorite?

I am, I suppose, one of the few people who did not care for him in his announcer role. But he did many good things (including his campaign against smokeless tobacco). I hope, if there is an afterlife, that he and Yogi get a chance to tell each other stories.

He was a mainstay on my TV when I watched the Yankee games in the sixties. I met him once in a men's room at Rockefeller Center after he taped The Match Game. I was in the audience. I made a comment that a big star ought to have his own bathroom and he laughed and said when you gotta go, you gotta go.

Does anybody remember his game show, the one he hosted?

RIP.
