I remember reading this issue as a kid. One of my teachers saw me reading SF in Study Hall and asked, "Would you like some science fiction magazines?" I of course said, "Yes!" and he brought be a bundle. This AMAZING was on top of the stack. Great stuff!

Now that's what I call a good teacher.

Indeed. The librarian who kickstarted my collecting fiction magazines was a little less generous, but did give me four issues of sf and fantasy magazines (F&SF, FANTASTIC, IF and GALAXY) that had been kicking around the junior high school library since some time in 1971 or without much interest, never having been formally added to the collection.

Oddly enough, this issue of AMAZING was one of the first batch I bought in a grab bag from Gerry de la Ree in 1978, as well...and I kept meaning to get around to reading it, but (unlike most if not all of the rest), still haven't.

I'll have to go see how many FictionMags people were amused or appalled that Rich didn't realize Dave Locke had been a member of the list before his death.

1971 or so/thereabouts, that was meant to read...they were mid/late 1971 issues. Presumably one of the teachers or someone had donated them.

No teacher ever game me any SF magazines, but the library did have a copy of one of those fat Groff Conklin anthologies that started me off on a long journey.
