Jack the Ripper Update

Jack the Ripper was renowned poet Francis Thompson: Thompson penned poetry by day and butchered prostitutes by night under the guise of legendary murderer Jack the Ripper, Australian teacher Richard Patterson claims.

Hat tip to Jeff Meyerson.

Maybe he and Patricia Cornwell can fight it out on Pay Per View.

After all, didn't she also do "extensive research" and reach a totally different conclusion?

Another gentleman did extensive research and declared A. Conan Doyle is the culprit. Oh, well, we may never know.

They all need to go sit down over there in the corner with Queen Victoria's crazy son and the mad Polish butcher because (deep breath) there was no Jack the Ripper. It was all dreamed up by rival Freemasons to discredit the head of Scotland Yard. The women--and there were many more--died of botched abortions.

/Now, ask me about JFK's assassination.

Okay, what about it?

No, the truth is that early 21st century writers, having perfected time-travel, are going back to late Victorian England and killing women in to order to hype the sales of their books. But as a result, earlier writers, noticing a spate of unsolved murders (unsolved because the murderers were no longer around) have been writing books claiming to have solved the murders. (Well, this seems as plausible as anything, based on what I've read.)

Thanks for discussing my theory. :) I have no solid proof of course, just a set of circumstantial evidence.

I had the same idea as Jeff. But I'd give Patsy a knife and this guy a gun.

Patricia Cornwell is the worst! She actually purchased an artist's paintings so that she could destroy them for DNA evidence--and all because she failed to understand how the British upper-middle-class might use the word "people". The artist was living in France and his wife wrote a letter saying her husband had gone to visit his people, which Cornwell interpreted as meaning he went back to England and was there during the crucial period of the killings. What the letter was actually saying was that the artist had toodled off to Paris to visit some relatives who were vacationing there. Money can't buy knowledge, I guess.

She also said that if you have a good suspect you don't have to look any further. It's thinking like that that keeps the Innocence Project in business.

Thanks for stopping by, Richard. As you can see, this bunch has a lot of interest in the Ripper.
