Embarrassingly, or thankfully, only one.

I have read the Patti Smith, Jeff Vandermeer, Stephen King, Gone girl, Girl on the Train, redeployment, Statiion 11,Mr Penumbras 24 hour bookstore, Ghettoside, Swamplandia and A Visit from the Goon Squad.
Find the Stephen King not only overrated but not even his best book in this time period-preferred Dr Sleep and Revival.

Girl On the Train is okay but not worth the hype.
The rest I enjoyed.

One, GOING CLEAR, by Lawrence Wright. I recommend it to everyone.

Amazingly, I did read one of them (Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore). Barbara has read several.

A dozen I believe. Anyone who thinks Gone Girl was one of the best anything loses a lot of credibility with me.

16--and I'm surprised it was that many because I rarely read new books. GIRL ON THE TRAIN is not quite as irritating as GONE GIRL, but when you've only introduced three plausible murder suspects by the middle of the book, you need to be a better writer than Paula Hawkins to pull it off.

However, since I complain about overhyped mysteries, let me recommend a mystery that I felt lived up to whatever hype it received: THE KIND WORTH KILLING by Peter Swanson. A bit of STRANGERS ON A TRAIN in the set-up, with a couple of neat little twists and a great final page.

I started a couple of them but didn't finish. There are two or three others on the list I'd probably try if I could find the time.
