He'd invite nubile girls up to his room and then read them the Bible? Was this before or after they had to wrestle each other while Elvis gorged on cheeseburgers and watched?

I thought it was deep-fried peanut-butter-and-banana sandwiches.

Who knew?

Trivia : Eddie Deezen co-starred in the semi-classic I Want to Hold Your Hand about Beatles' fans trying to get close to the Fab Four on their first trip to America in 1964.

The Colonel burning Elvis' books was like the Colonel telling Stroller and Leiber that if they ever told Elvis that Elia Kazan wanted him for a movie he'd "see they never worked in show business again." And Elvis couldn't play Europe because the Colonel was wanted for murder one there. And when he died Elvis was worth only five mil while the Colonel had sixty or something. And it doesn't say much for Priscilla being threatened by Elvis' reading. What a crew.

I believe the entire trajectory of Elvis's life and career would have been completely different if he could have kicked the Colonel to the curb around 1957. Alas, nothing but fodder for speculative fiction.
